On March 20th, the first day of spring, The Nook opened to the public at 5 p.m. to offer Atlanta residents, Midtown businesspeople and Piedmont Park-goers a new and exciting gathering spot for lunch, brunch, dinner and drinks. Since opening night, the response has been incredible. We want to offer unparalleled hospitality, a welcoming atmosphere and high quality food to all who work and play nearby. With all the walking traffic in the area, we look forward to offering Atlantans, and especially our neighbors, a convenient gathering spot that they can count on for any occasion. Whether you're coming from a softball game, a hard day at work, or just passing by, we want everyone to feel comfortable at The Nook.
To create the look and feel we wanted with the space, we decided to start from scratch by completely gutting the space, installing, among other things, new electrical, plumbing and woodwork for their tavern. The restaurant's décor includes custom wooden furniture and a grand new bar offset against an aged brick wall, which creates a cozy and welcoming setting. Our bathrooms might have the coolest hand-dryers in the City. They are Dyson Air Blades, only use on average about $30 worth of energy per year, and because they reduce paper waste, they are very environmentally friendly.
The Nook also features hand made glass accordion doors, which open the view from the tavern to the park and allow guests to walk from the restaurant onto the patio. Without a doubt, The Nook's location on Piedmont Park is a major draw for guests. We feel like we have the best patio in the City because of the amazing views of the Park it offers, the versatile seating options and brand new ceiling fans. We also installed a brand new cedar trellis and will be brining in an awning to enclose the patio when it gets cold or rains. The Nook seats up to 150 guests between the dining room, bar and patio areas.
In addition to a full liquor and wine selection, The Nook's large bar offers 13 beers on tap with an additional 20 bottled beers. The affordable wine list includes wines starting at $4 a glass. There is also a specialty cocktail list and The Nook's (in)famous Fishbowl, which is literally a fishbowl containing over a gallon of dangerously delicious adult beverage, available in four amazing flavors.
The Nook has some great weekly events and upcoming special events. For example, every Tuesday night we have Team Trivia, which starts at 8:30 p.m., is free to enter and has great prizes. The Nook is also a great place to wind down your weekend with its Sunday Funday Party from 3 p.m. to Midnight. Enjoy the best patio in Atlanta and $1 Yuengling drafts. Check out the Events page for information on all of the happenings at The Nook.
Here is an excerpt from one of our latest blog reviews - FirstBite:
"We decided to start with an app of âOoh Ooh Breadâ (topped with creamy Parmesan cheese, onion, garlic and mayo that is lightly toasted and served with homemade marinara sauce), which I think we chose based on the name alone. Loved. This. Bread. But I mean who doesnât love cheesy garlic bread? You could really taste the âhomemadeâ in the homemade marinara, my first comment was on how fresh the tomatoes in it tasted.
For entrees, I tried what is apparently Chef Gogolinâs specialty, the shrimp and grits (Sautéed shrimp, shallots and garlic in a smoked tomato beurre blanc sauce, served with fried Andouille sausage and Gouda cheese studded grit cakes and sautéed spinach) and Mario had the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger (Half pound C.A.B. burger smothered with our homemade Coca-Cola® BBQ sauce and topped with Cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon and fried tobacco onions, minus onions) and sweet potato fries. This was a different take on shrimp and grits, and I liked it. I wasnât sure Iâd like the tomato-based sauce, but it was actually quite good and complimented the smoky grit-cake nicely. The sautéed spinach, another unlikely addition, was also a nice touch. My shrimp were large and well cooked and seasoned. The plate looked small at first, but proved to be more than I could eat in one sitting (but tasted just as good the next day). Mario enjoyed his cheeseburger as well. The Coca-Cola BBQ sauce was a little sweeter than he liked (I agreed) and I think maybe would have benefited from some more smoky flavor. Sweet potato fries are probably his new favorite side order, and he thought The Nook did a great job with theirs. Chef Gogolin even came by to say hello before we left, and I really think heâs doing a nice job with the food at The Nook."
